“When I first went to a Valleys Steps Stress Control course I didn’t know what to expect and I was a bit nervous, so my wife came along as well to support me. I’d been experiencing a lot of stress in work and it had started to affect my personal life as well. I’d always been able to cope with life’s ups and downs before but now I was struggling and I didn’t know what to do.
When I arrived at the venue I was so anxious about what the course would be like that I almost turned around and went straight home. I’m so glad that I stayed! I was relieved that no-one was expected to speak in front of everyone else, and the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed.
The Course Practitioner was an entertaining speaker and the presentation slides were really interesting and helpful. I could identify personally with many of the examples given about how stress can affect people and how it makes them feel. I knew then that I was in the right place and it was such a relief to know that there were other people who felt just like I did.
We all received a stress control workbook to accompany the course. There were lots of useful exercises to complete and it helped me to identify the sources of my stress, and decide what I could do about them. I learned how to use relaxation techniques to control my stress symptoms, and also how to challenge my negative thoughts.
I’m really glad I went to the course that day and eventually completed all six weeks. It was so helpful that I’ve now done the course a second time for good measure! Have my problems disappeared and is my life stress-free? No, of course not. But now I understand my stress symptoms much better, and I have learned lots of tips and techniques to help me better manage them. Thank you Valleys Steps!”
